Personal Musings

Sorry it's been a few months since the last post. Just like you, I got really busy in November and December, but I'm excited for the new year and the fresh semester facing us all! Hope you enjoy the blog- I'm hoping to repost in a few weeks to give some concrete and helpful tips about leadership development!

One More Week- What Will You Do With It?

It's really easy to get excited and spend a good deal of your summer planning for the fall semester. Then, midterms happen, papers come and suddenly you're home from finals stretched out in a semi-comatose state on your couch.  Thoughts of the spring semester are far from your mind, but is it any less important than that big drive the first few weeks of school in the fall?

People try new things second  semester. Some who may never have attempted to try a large group in the fall might've come back with some resolutions in the new year to get involved. What are you planning to give them? How are you pondering and praying for ways to encourage your chapter to meet with the Lord through worship?

I would encourage you to read back through some of the blog posts from this fall- remind yourself what worship is really about, what your team is accomplishing by working things out in a Godly way, what risks God has maybe called your community to take.

Also, set some time aside between now and that first week back. Submit to God in prayer and ask Him what He might have in store for this semester. Take some long moments to rest in silence and let Him meet you.  Maybe read one of the books in the book spotlight. And ask yourself some of the following questions:

What did you learn as a leader this past semester? How has God changed or challenged you and how might you lead differently in response to that?  What has been done well and what could use improvement in practice, team dynamics and execution?

Don't fall into that easy trap of just doing things the way you've always done them. Yes, it takes more effort to change things, to take risks- but know that as we come before a loving God, our ultimate worship leader, that he's conforming us more and more to his image the more we learn to slow down, reflect and respond to Him.
